The properties exhibited by steel grades that are alloyed tend to be much higher than carbon steel alloys. Unlike carbon steel alloys whose chemical composition is made up of iron and carbon, low alloy steels have the inclusion of elements such as chromium, manganese, molybdenum, etc. AISI 4130, which is low alloy steel includes several elements in their chemistry, of which chromium and manganese are secondary alloyants. By adding these two elements to their chemistry, the UNS G41300 Alloy Steel Square Tubes see an immediate increase in their strength. Both chromium and molybdenum are referred to as strengthening materials. They also impart interesting properties like ductility and good toughness. Aside from its chemistry, the improvement of mechanical properties of the AISI 4130 Tube is made possible by the use of heat treatments like annealing, quenching, and tempering. Hardening this alloy is achievable via heat treatment. Though the AISI 4130 Alloy Steel Seamless Tube has a good strength to weight ratio, reducing its thickness will cause a reduction in tensile strength. While the alloy is very popular in the oil and gas industry, the corrosion resistance property of the AISI 4130 q&t Rectangular Tubing is low. But, in comparison to carbon steel alloys, this grade is considered to outperform the former, simply because of the inclusion of more elements in its chemistry. The best property of this alloy is, however, its weldability. Unlike some alloys that do not permit the use of conventional welding practices, it is relatively easy to weld the ASTM A519 Grade 4130 qt Tube by such methods. This alloy has a carbon content in the range of 0.28% - 0.33%, which is low enough to make it easy to weld the SAE 4130 q&t Steel Round Tube. The alloy has good toughness and is often tempered to improve its ductility.
